The probe is a piece of technology that was sent through the Time-Space fracture after it was discovered.

Overview
The probe had a beacon so it could be located however many millions of years later, but it never was found, indicating that the fracture led to a new time stream. The probe was placed on a pedestal just past the market at Terra Nova and some of the settlers had carved their names into the stone of the pedestal. (Genesis, Part 1)
History
The probe was sent through the time portal and was later found by the colonists who placed it on a pedestal. Maddy Shannon told her brother and sister about the probe when they came across it on their way to orientation and Zoe carved her name into the pedestal. (Genesis, Part 1)
