"Most people know I was the first man through the portal, What people don't know is that the men who came through behind me, well they didn't show up on this end right away; for them it was just the blink of an eye, for me 118 days."
— Nathaniel Taylor

Biography

Military

Taylor commands the colony

Taylor served in the military and was in the war in Somalia in 2138 where numerous psychological experiments were done on soldiers. During this time, he served with Alicia Washington, and it is was when his wife was killed. Something that happened in Somalia made Lucas hate his father. (What Remains, Now You See Me)

Solitary explorer

Taylor was the first explorer sent through the time portal. When he passed through, he had to survive in the jungle alone living in a Banyan tree, called Pilgrim's tree, for 118 days before the rest of his group, who entered the time portal only mere seconds after him, arrived. Taylor helped construct Terra Nova. After finding thousands of crushed egg shells while digging a geothermal well, it was decided to go ahead and build the colony there based on it appearing that much time had passed since the eggs were lain. (Genesis, Part 2, Instinct)

Terra Nova

Taylor searches for the missing teens

Taylor became the leader of Terra Nova, welcoming each arriving pilgrimage, and headed the colony's security. His son, Lucas arrived on the second pilgrimage and some time later Taylor managed to strong-arm his son into going fishing with him. Taylor eventually discovered the reason Lucas was sent to Terra Nova was to devise a means of making the portal two-way and he trashed Lucas' lab. Lucas left the colony and Taylor followed him, witnessing a portal open and General Richard Philbrick, Taylor's old commander, appear. Philbrick demanded Taylor step down or he will be forced out of his position, when Taylor refused, Philbrick reached for his weapon but the commander reached his first and shot the General. Taylor told Lucas to leave and never come back, he then found Tom Boylan and had him help bury Philbrick's body out in the jungle. (Vs.)

Taylor, having partially lost his memory, threatens Reynolds

When the tenth pilgrimage arrived, Taylor was informed there were two stowaways - Jim Shannon and his five-year-old daughter, Zoe. After meeting with Jim and his wife, Elisabeth, Taylor decided that rather than tossing Jim into the brig or banishing him to the jungle, Jim could remain. He was assigned to agricultural detail.

Taylor and Jim banish Curran

Carter, a captured Sixer, nearly assassinated Taylor, but Jim intervened, saving Taylor's life. Taylor then offered Jim a position on his security team. When Taylor took Jim outside the fence and up a mountain that overlooks Terra Nova, he spotted two Sixer transport vehicles racing towards Terra Nova. He and Jim headed them off but saw that they were actually being chased by Carnotaurs. Taylor lured the creatures away from Terra Nova while the others made it safely inside the gate. Jim, returning in a transport, picked Taylor up. Taylor then traded the Sixers some supplies for meteoric iron. When a group of teenagers, including Jim's son, went missing in the jungle, Taylor led the search team to rescue them. (Genesis, Part 1, Genesis, Part 2)

Taylor led a mission to locate a missing supply-run team, finding them all dead from mysterious wounds. The attack was similar to the one on Jim and Josh by pterosaurs. Taylor denied requests to study the creatures, but Elisabeth and Malcolm successfully synthesized the pterosaurs pheromones. Taylor drove a transport loaded with the pheromones to lure the pterosaurs to a new breeding ground. (Instinct)

Taylor fends off a Komodo

Taylor investigated the communication blackout at Outpost 3 and became infected with a pathogen that partially erased his memory. Believing he was back in Somalia in 2138, and that everything he was seeing was some psychological experiment, he went to Terra Nova, thinking it was an enemy stronghold. Taylor confronted Lt Washington in the command compound. Upon learning that his wife Ionie died years before, he attempted to slit his own throat, but was stunned by Lt Washington. (What Remains)

Taylor and Washington

Taylor met with Leah Marcos and asked her some questions about the Sixers, and when the Sixers showed up, Taylor had his troops out in full force and refused to hand Leah back to Mira despite Mira having Washington and Dunham. When Taylor found out that Leah had been sent to Terra Nova to retrieve an item he was betrayed and had Malcolm examine the item. Despite that Jim had disobeyed Taylor's orders and left the colony to find Leah's brother, Taylor let it slide as Jim had reunited the two children. (The Runaway)

Taylor had Jim and Wash investigate the apparent murder of Ken Foster and Taylor was forced to banish Howard Milner who confessed to the murder to protect his wife. Taylor let him back in when it was discovered that one of the security officers, Curran, had killed Foster and beat Foster out of the colony, telling him not to come back. When a meteor caused an electromagnetic pulse, Taylor had the security force on alert and he and Jim used bows to fire flaming arrows to scare off an Empirosaur that the Sixers had herded to the colony while they infiltrated and removed Mira's item. (Bylaw, Nightfall)

Taylor took Jim fishing and came across Curran living in the jungle being hunted by an Ancestral Komodo and took it upon himself to defend Curran and drive off the Komodo. Taylor then told Curran that if he infiltrated the Sixers and managed to discover who the spy was, he would let Curran back into the colony. Taylor discovered that Jim was investigating the body he dug up near Pilgrim's tree and so had him framed as being the Sixer spy to blackmail him into stopping his investigation. Taylor admitted who the body was and how it had happened and let Jim go. Some time later Taylor went out into the jungle and was captured by Mira. Taylor managed to turn the tables and take Mira hostage but the two had to work together to fend of two Slashers. (Proof, Vs., Now You See Me)
