Maddy Shannon is the daughter of Jim and Elisabeth Shannon, sister of Josh and Zoe and a member of the tenth pilgrimage.

Biography

Early life

Maddy was born in 2133. She is highly intelligent, and spent her younger years learning as much as she could about everything. In 2147, while heading home, Maddy spotted the Population Control police inside her building, and rushed ahead to warn her parents. She became upset over how the population control officers ransacked their home and her personal belongings. Some weeks before her mother was recruited for Terra Nova, Maddy arrived home and began coughing up blood, as her rebreather had not been working properly. She spent time in a hospital recovering. Terra Nova

Maddy was allowed to accompany her mother and brother through the time portal to Terra Nova. She was very excited at the prospect, absorbing what information she could about Terra Nova. When her sister Zoe noted that their new house did not have a room for her, Maddy offered to share her bedroom. On their way to orientation, Maddy told her brother and sister about the probe that is displayed in the commons area. Maddy met Mark Reynolds, a Terra Nova Security personnel, and the two were immediately attracted to one another. (Genesis, Part 1, Genesis, Part 2) Maddy attended a jungle survival lesson, and successfully answered a question about how to find north. Later, she helped her family plant shrubs around their new home. She asked her father how she could tell if a boy liked her, obviously meaning Reynolds. When a flock of pterosaurs attacked Terra Nova, she was confined to the house with Josh and Zoe. A security guard was also posted there, but Reynolds changed positions with him so he could be at the Shannon residence. Jim later told Maddy that is how she can tell a boy likes her. Maddy invited Mark to the house, and baked him a mock-key lime pie, but once again, she felt her intelligence may have scared Mark off. When Maddy's parents disappeared, Mark came by to talk to her before reporting to Lt. Washington. (Instinct, What Remains)

Maddy began an internship with her mother at the infirmary however she was unable to stomach some of the more gruesome parts of the job. Maddy was at the market when she was found by Reynolds, who declared his intentions to start courting Maddy. When Ken Foster, a member of Reynolds security squad, was killed, Maddy offered her condolences to Reynolds. Later Maddy and Reynolds went OTG and had a picnic in a field of day flowers and became trapped out there when an electromagnetic pulse disabled their rover, forcing them to spend the night in the jungle up in a tree. Maddy began an internship with Ken Horton, the colony's greatest scientist, but soon discovered that he did not know details of his own life. Maddy looked further into it and discovered that Ken Horton was in fact an imposter who attempted to have a poisonous spider bite her so she would die, only to be saved at the last minute by her father. Maddy later helped the children prepare and perform the harvest festival. (Proof, Vs.)

Abilities and Skills

Maddy is highly intelligent and quite knowledgeable, knowing the differences between Earth and Terra Nova, about flora like mosses and the yellow pigment plants, as well as about fauna like Brachiosauri. She is mathematically inclined and possesses much general scientific knowledge like about the Moon, and historical information, such as the Terra Nova probe and the Spanish voyages of the 15th century.
