Synopsis
In 2149, severe pollution and over-population have nearly destroyed the Earth. Jim and Elisabeth Shannon have broken the law by having a third child when two are the legal limit. The population police discover three-year-old Zoe being hidden in the Shannon's apartment, and Jim is sentenced to six years in Golad prison after attacking an officer. Two years later, Elisabeth, a doctor, is recruited to Terra Nova, a colony 85 million years in Earth's past that is accessible by a time fracture that goes one way. She helps Jim escape Golad, and he smuggles himself and Zoe into Hope Plaza, the departure point to Terra Nova. Once in Terra Nova, Commander Nathaniel Taylor is displeased by Jim's presence, but sympathetic to the Shannon's plight, he allows Jim to remain in the colony, assigning him to the agricultural unit.
