Overview

Environment

By 2149 the planet had very little plant and animal life and the atmosphere was very polluted, requiring people to use rebreathers in unfiltered environments and being so extreme that the moon cannot be seen. Despite the apparent lack of oceans and seas parts of the planet had some amounts of rainfall. Some areas are capable of growing food but they also rely on manufactured foodstuff such as Super Protein. (Genesis, Part 1, Genesis, Part 2, Nightfall, Countdown to Terra Nova)

Government

Many governments are dealing with very little stable infrastructure and have programs in place to help the less fortunate however in some cases such as the Montana dust bowl they have to abandon their work and redirect their efforts elsewhere. Some governments have also been alleged to cover up disasters such as a Cholera epidemic in Miami and destroy any evidences. (Countdown to Terra Nova)

Society

The collapse of environmental areas led to collapse of certain factors of society, 70% of the United States is unemployed, there is an estimated 800,000 homeless people in the United Kingdom and cities such as New York are so overpopulated that governments are urging citizens to leave. Many people require help from the government either in the form of stimulus packages, such as those in Italy for couples who remain childless, or food from food distribution centers. In contrast the wealthy can live in communities in domes which do not require them to wear rebreathers. (Countdown to Terra Nova, Genesis, Part 1)
