Lieutenant Alicia Washington is the second-in-command of Terra Nova and an old military colleague of Commander Taylor.

Biography

Washington was serving with Taylor in Somalia during 2137 when the Russo-Chinese set off an electromagnetic pulse. She was injured and airlifted out. She later accompanied Commander Taylor to Terra Nova and became the colony's second-in-command. She was present when the tenth pilgrimage arrived, and communicated to Commander Taylor that Jim and Zoe Shannon were stowaways. When Josh Shannon, Skye Tate and several other teens went missing outside the gate, Washington was part of the search team, and helped fend off the Slashers that were attacking the teens. Washington ran the survival training for new arrivals and also ordered Josh to clean out the latrines (his punishment for going OTG). Wash helped locate the Malcolmus Pterosauri that were swarming toward the colony, then supervised the lockdown to protect colonists. When Taylor was investigating the communications disruption at Outpost 3, Washington was left in charge of the colony. She refused to let Jim go to the outpost. When Commander Taylor, infected with a pathogen causing memory regression, arrived at the colony believing he was in a battle, Washington tried to talk him down, but was forced to shoot him unconscious. Wash helped track down a Sixer outside the colony, who turned out to be Leah, a young girl. Wash helped locate the young girl's lost bag. Wash, along with Dunham, was later captured by the Sixers. Mira and the other Sixers brought Wash and Dunham before the colony to be exchanged for the young girl. Washington assisted Jim with a break-in investigation and then in re-capturing Leah who has stolen something and was escaping back to the Sixers. She later helped with Jim's investigation into Fosters death and then with tracking down the Nykoraptor that had killed him, cutting it open to get the security tags the Nyko had eaten. Wash helped defend the colony after a meteor explosion caused an electromagnetic pulse and disabled the colony's technology. While Taylor was tracking the Sixer spy, Wash helped to chase the Dragonfly that the spy was using to communicate with the Sixers. Washington helped Jim strengthen the colony's defenses and install a security camera. While viewing the security footage, she saw Skye sneaking out of the colony. (Nightfall, Vs., Within)

Washington stayed behind in Terra Nova to defend the colony should the 11th pilgrimage become dangerous. She ably defended the colony, but was outnumbered by the Phoenix Group, mercenary soldiers who arrived from 2149 to capture Terra Nova. Riddled with guilt over losing the colony and lives, Wash spent time in Boylan's Bar drinking, until Jim convinced her to help plan a resistance movement. Wash, fraternizing with the mercenaries, placed transponders onto their clothing and swiped a Phoenix Access card to disable the Perimeter grid surrounding the colony. She created a distraction so the Shannon family could escape. She was captured and later executed by Lucas Taylor when she refused to reveal any information. (Occupation, Resistance)

Personality

Washington is a highly-trained soldier, having served with Commander Taylor in the war in Somalia, and is tasked in using various weapons and technology for her position as Terra Nova's second-in-command. Her quiet, calm demeanor allows her to make quick decisions under stressful situations. Her subordinates follow her orders without question, and appear to highly respect her. She has demonstrated skills in battle with both weapons and in hand-to-hand combat. Wash is also proficient in driving vehicles such as rovers, and is described as one of the best field medics Taylor has ever known. (Nightfall, What Remains, The Runaway, Bylaw)

Relationships

It is unknown if Washington had any romantic relationships. She became friendly with Jim Shannon, later working with him to mount a resistance against the Phoenix Group. Professionally, she was respected and well-liked by Commander Taylor, other soldiers, and most Terra Nova colonists.
